From Scratch - Black Moons

Ingredients

The cake

1/2 cup crisco (solid, not oil)

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup baking cocoa

2 cups flour

1-1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

The filling

1 stick softened butter

1-1/2 to 2 cups confectionary sugar

1/2 cup marshmallow fluff

1 teaspoon vanilla

The preparation

Cream together crisco, sugar, egg and vanilla – set aside

In a separate bowl blend together cocoa, flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt (dry ingredients)

1. Place about a fourth of the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture and mix through (by hand)

2. Pour about a fourth of the milk into this mixture and mix through (by hand)

Repeat 1 & 2 above to combine all ingredients, alternating the dry ingredients with the milk until the mixture is fully combined.

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.  

Line a cookie sheet with baking foil.  Drop the dough by spoonfuls onto the cookie sheet.

Bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes

Let cool completely before filling

Filling

Cream softened (not melted) butter with 1/2 cup confectionary sugar.

Add remaining confectionary and vanilla and beat until creamy.

Add fluff and stir well into all ingredients are mix together.

Sandwich filling between the flat sides of two cakes
