A New Chapter for the Townsend VFW
For nearly 80 years, the Townsend VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) has been a place where veterans, families, friends, and neighbors have come together in the spirit of service, camaraderie, and community. Established in 1946, VFW Post 6538 has long been an important part of Townsend’s history and continues to serve as a gathering place for both veterans and the community they proudly served.
Today, the post is home not only to the VFW, but also to American Legion Post 199 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 122, creating a strong network of support for local veterans and their families. Throughout the year, the VFW participates in community activities, supports local organizations, and provides meeting and event space for nonprofit groups and community programs.
The Townsend VFW is also entering an exciting new chapter. With renewed energy and a focus on community engagement, the post is working to create more opportunities for people to gather, connect, and enjoy everything the VFW has to offer. From longtime traditions like Meat Bingo to community events, fundraisers, and social gatherings, there is a growing excitement surrounding the post and its future.

Most importantly, the Townsend VFW is a family-oriented organization dedicated to bringing people together.
